Recently, a new club has made its way to the St. Mary’s community. Founded by SJ(27) and Yuu(26), the Mock Trial Club aims to educate students and immerse them in the world of laws and courtrooms. While there are numerous clubs in the school, not one has introduced the field of law to the students. With the new Mock Trial Club, however, SJ(27) states that it is expected to open new opportunities to the students on their interest and widen the variety of fine arts in St. Mary’s.
The club will imitate a real court and will conduct a trial. Each student will have the choice to take the job of a prosecutor or the defense. The main goal of every trial will be to receive a verdict from the judge that is more advantageous to their side. As an example, if the student is a prosector, the goal will be to get a higher sentence for the defendant or the accused, while the defense will try to get a lower sentence for the defendant. Other positions in the mock trial will be the judge and the witness, all swearing for nothing but the truth.
Mock Trial is a well-established extracurricular activity in the U.S., with multiple competitions taking place. As such, the club looks forward to participating in a global competition. Moreover, a few international schools in the Kanto Plains also have Mock Trial clubs and there are possibilities for future competitions among them.
The new club will have meetings every Friday or Wednesday after school in Mr. Fox’s room(311), and approximately 30 minutes or more will be used. Those interested in the club can fill out the form or contact through the email [email protected] or [email protected]. Co-founder Yuu(26) states, “I am excited about the number of things we can do and experience in the club.” With the creativity and enjoyable experience, the newly introduced Mock Trial club is expected to grow both in numbers and in quality.
