The St. Mary’s Cross Country team has started their season well. As of now, the team has had 2 meets, and another one on September 27th. “We have a team with a good mixture of experience and youth, and I believe this can lead to continued success in the future,” said Cross Country coach, Mr. Vinall about the first Cross Country meet on the 14th September. The team ran at Ikego, which is about an hour drive from St. Mary’s.
The team was overall 3rd and lost to Kinnick by only 3 points. “Losing to Kinnick by 3 points in the first meet was tough to take but given that we were missing a couple of key runners, as well as it being the first outing for the new look team, I was not too disappointed,” said Mr. Vinall.
There is an upcoming trip in Cross Country in which only the Top 10 can go to Chiba, but only the Top 7 will be able to compete in the Asia Pacific Invitational Cross Country championships. Many runners are trying harder than ever to make the Top 7 so that they can run for the school. “Many people will be trying harder than ever to join the Varsity team.” said Amon N. (’27).
