Today is the first day of our school’s winter uniform. The uniform brings uniformity that makes the school look professional and makes it easier in the morning not to have to choose what to wear. The sharp collars and stiff fabrics may look neat, however after hours of sitting in class, they start to feel pretty restrictive and uncomfortable.
What students look forward to is Titans Friday—the one day of the week when we get to ditch the uniforms and show our school spirit by wearing any Titans-themed merch. It’s a fun break from the usual routine, and it’s great to see everyone wearing their favourite new shirts, and hoodies to represent.
This is what the school’s vice president Nathaniel Twohig has to say ”Wonjin and I have started off the school year by selling the popular “Class of” hoodies for HS students. We plan on using this profit to move forward with other initiatives such as the School Merchandise Design Competition. Since school spirit is at the core of this year’s Executive Stuco members, we believe that showing school spirit on Titans Fridays would be the most effective way to increase the spirit of the school.” But I think that we should take this another step further.
Uniforms are part of school life, but adding more relaxed options, even if it’s just for specific days or sports events, could make a big difference in our school pride. Here’s hoping we see some new clothing options in the future!
