Ms. Shoji is making the library a comfortable and brighter atmosphere! Before coming to St. Mary’s, she worked as a librarian for a year at Tokyo International School and in an international security company. When asked about the reason behind changing her profession from business to librarian, she replied, “I was tired of the job [going from 8 to 8] so I decided to leave.” Interestingly, she also worked as a tour guide for a travel agency for Japanese people during her time at Prince Edward Island Canada. Her international experience was the main reason behind applying for a librarian position at an international school.
Unlike a usual librarian, Ms. Shoji revealed in a recent interview that she has a rather interesting hobby: she likes to listen to rock music and go to concerts of rock bands. Her favorite rock band is Def Leppard, a British rock band consisting of five British members. They are mostly known for their melodic version of heavy rock. She states that rock gets her excited. The most recent concert that she attended was hosted by Queen at Tokyo Dome back in February. She also likes to read–as she is a librarian–.
In school, she likes to communicate with the students and help them out. According to Ms. Shoji, “I’m amazed at the middle school students coming back as high school students.” This year is Ms. Shoji’s 17th year in St. Mary’s, and she seems happier with her job as a librarian than ever before.
