Meet Ms Odate, a librarian with over 30 years of experience! Ms. Odate, from Wisconsin, USA came to Japan in 1982. Before coming to St.Mary’s, she worked as a librarian in the US, and she also worked at Seisen International School for over 30 years as a librarian and an elementary school teacher and taught second, third, and fifth grade. When asked about what she enjoys the most as a librarian, she said “I like being with students”. Her main job is finding new books that interest the students, as well as teaching the media skills class.
Ms.Odate encourages everyone to come to the library and check out books. Ms.Odate personally enjoys realistic, history, and mystery fiction, and she enjoys the action and the characters in the book. She also said that the book is enjoyable when “it reads like a movie!” A message from Ms.Odate: ” Come check out the books! You will find many discoveries! I learned so much history from books that I didn’t learn from school!”
