The first play of the school year is happening tonight! The students will proudly present two plays, Antigone and Much Ado About Nothing. The play will feature a joint acting force of Seisen and St. Mary’s, who have worked hard to practice for this play and will certainly put on a great show tonight. The play mixes the Shakespearean play Much Ado About Nothing and the Ancient Greek Play Antigone by Sophocles. Their vision is to modernize these 2 great plays to give them a more modern approach and make it easier for younger crowds.
The play also
features a certain Japanese principle of Kinshki, which entails breaking a plate and repairing it with liquid gold. This highlights the ongoing theme of character development and is a large focus of the play. The performers alongside the directors, Dr Reimer and Mr Stoval have rehearsed extensively with sessions happening from Tuesdays to Thursdays. They have been working late hours at night practicing multiple times, memorizing, and putting in the dedication to make this whole play work. Credit must also be given to the backstage: publicity, props, costume, makeup, and tech crew. Without them, the whole play would not happen. The ticket price is ¥500 yen per individual and the play will be starting from 7 pm on Friday and Saturday. We hope to see you all at the play!
