The U-15 Titans Soccer team faced off against Kellett International School on October 11, Friday, in a highly anticipated match. Although St. Mary’s team came with high spirits, the game ended in a 3-0 loss, but was a great experience.
The team was focused on the experience more than the result. Mr Chan emphasized the importance of going out to enjoy the game, stating that “the scoreline will take care of itself.” The Titans used a 4-4-2 formation, putting their focus on defense. Despite not having regular practice, the team showed their strong motivation and Titans’ spirit to face the tough Kellett International School. When asked about how he motivates his athletes, Mrf Chan replied, “they have to be eccentric; intrinsically motivate yourself.” they must show unity, and communicate with each other as they played during the game.
With nearly no preparation time, the Titans did their best as they can. However, Kellett international school proved to be a tough opponent, as they scored two goals just in the first half. Although the Titans did not get the result they wanted, the team showed high spirits. Mr Chan believes that the experience was valuable,, both for the players and for the school: “Our focus was more on the experience and the joy of playing, and in that sense, we succeeded,”
The Titans soccer teams are focused on the upcoming season, with tryouts starting soon, and using this loss as an experience to prepare the players for the season.
