Reading for students may sometimes not seem exciting, but there is an event starting next week that aims to change that. Freeze and Read takes place next week, allowing students to pick their favorite books and start reading. From November 5-8, students will be expected to stop anything they are doing, at a designated time, and start reading. This event is a continuation from last year, as so many enjoyed it then.
Ms. Odate was a critical contributor, making this event possible for the entire school.
She encourages students to read more–as it can expand vocabulary te
rms and enhance literacy skills. She explained that she wants students to foster a love for reading. In today’s digital age, students are often distr
acted by screens such as smartphones, computers, and iPads, making reading less appealing. Dedicating a week to reading aims to disconnect students from technology, which often makes students tired by discovering the joy of literature.
If you are looking for a good book to have ready for the Freeze and Read, one book Ms. Odate recommends for students is I Must Betray You, a historical fiction novel based on actual events. The book takes place in Romania and provides insights into trust and betrayal.
