Boys scout, typically we would think this organization is where young boys, from a small age up to into their adolescence, would go on camping trip making bonfires, making tents, and hiking. However at St. Mary’s, it is a institution and family. At St. Mary’s International school, is part of the Troop 15 for the Boys Scouts of America in the Far East Council.
The boys scout club is welcome toward anyone with the age above 10, however anyone between ages 8 and 12 are welcome to join a lower division group such as the Cub Scouts, offering preparatory lessons before joining the official group. All students are able to join the meetings which happen ever Tuesday after school with Mr. Yarker as the scoutmaster. The club is able to guide you into registering as a new member under the Far East Council Organization.
Furthemore, this club also offers motivations members to perform well in the club by offering promotions and badges. New members start off as a Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, Star, Life, and finally Eagle. By having different ranks, younger members can look forward into doing well in this club in order to get promoted. Alongside other promotions, members can also receive awards such as merit badges. In order to complete and to receive this badges, they are required to make research and perform experiments that can be used into a broader scale which can benefit people. Researches such as Nuclear Science, Law, Radio, Safety, Backpacking, can all be researched which allows students to have interests even after coming out of the boys scouts.
Members should also be looking forward on upcoming events such as the Summer Camp (happening on June 1st) and Snow Camp (Around February.) The BSA and The Far East Council also provides annual meets and activities such as the Patrol-O-Ree which is a weekend-campout where people participate in fun competitions. Internally, there are also activities that the group can decide to do such as getting involved in fun outdoor activities or service activities. This can greatly help you if you want your service hours up, which makes college applications much easier.
So come join Boys Scouts!
