“The Read-a-thon is a great way to raise money to help people in need by doing something relaxing and fun. Please consider participating to change the lives of kids in need.” Said Dominic Mitchell, (’26) the event coordinator for the Read a Thon. This event is a wonderful opportunity to engage in reading while supporting children in need. Everyone is encouraged to join since all funds raised will be donated to Mirai no Mori, a Non-Governmental Organization. Hosted by the library council, the readathon will take place from February 1-February 28th.
Participants will fill out a sponsorship form to raise money for the number of pages they read! “Reading, which is something you have to do every day, can make a difference in people’s lives” explained Ms.Odate, the leader of the Library Council.
Mirai no Mori
Mirai no Mori, originally an English outdoors adventure company, is an international nongovernmental organization that provides outdoor activities and learning opportunities (learning English) to abused and neglected orphans who don’t get to have opportunities as we have. The organization supports the growth of its orphans, teaching and fostering essential skills needed in life. The organization has 5 core values: Kindness, being compassionate, and considerate to others. Respect, having various opinions, and having multiple perspectives. Responsibility, taking responsibility for their behavior, actions, and belongings. Courage, being able to take risks face their fear(presenting in front of people, etc.), and find a new strength. Finally, Leadership takes the initiative and strengthens communication skills. Through these 5 core values, children can gain insights into how to think, and act in the real world while having fun. One page from your favorite book can change someone’s life, join now!
