St. Mary’s International School’s instrumental music program again joined the Kanto Plains Association of Secondary Schools (KPASS) Honor Band, and the results were amazing. The KPASS Honor Band is a competition aimed at finding the top instrument players among the international schools in the Kanto area. Each instrument is divided into different sections, where musicians aim to get the highest rank, often called ‘chairs.’
The results for the 2025 Honor Band were released on December 12, 2024. Among the schools, St. Mary’s International School had the most number of students in the band, with 8 section leaders(first chairs) out of 13 sections and a concertmaster in the orchestra section: Kanishk Tatipamula(Oboe ‘26), SJ Lee(Flute ‘27), Tyler Iguchi(Trombone ‘26), Keito Takenaka(Tenor saxophone ‘25), Tyler Davis(Baritone saxophone ‘27), Maurya Choudhary (French horn ‘25), Dwayne Surrao (Tuba ‘26), Brian Budiman (Percussion ‘25), Matti Obara(Violin ‘29). As Mr. Jeffrey Griggs, conductor of St. Mary’s Instrumental Program states, “It is a record year.”
