“Cameras rolling, Action!” This is what the director says when filming a scene. The St.Mary’s Film Production Club led by Hector Koo (’26) and Mughil RK(’26) is a club for those who truly enjoy filmmaking and acting.

Students usually work on short films, which are about 5 to 10 minutes in length on average. Filming a short film is no easy task. On average, students spend almost half a year or more making a single short film. The script of the film is rigorously planned with all of the specific scenes and actions the actors have to remember. The script is proofread and edited many, many times before filming. The scripting process often takes up to a month. Once the script is done, filming starts. Students often have to take many shots until they get the perfect scene, and actors have to remember every single detail from the script. It’s not rare for students to spend a whole day on a single scene that only has a length of a few seconds. Filming takes the most time since it requires the most planning. (Time, weather, location, etc.) Some scenes were even filmed a few months apart! Once all the filming is done, editing starts. Editing includes cutting the scenes, adding audio, and adding text. The editing process often takes about a month since it requires extreme precision for scenes to transition naturally and smoothly.
Overall, the film production club is a club filled with talented actors, editors, and filmers. You will have opportunities to make awesome films with your classmates and win awards! Whether your talent is filming, acting, or editing, you will have a chance to shine. Definitely join the film production club!
