Career Day at St. Mary’s is a special event where students learn about different careers from professionals. Alumni and experts visit to share their experiences, helping students explore various fields like finance, law, marketing, and engineering.
This year, students heard from successful professionals like Izumi Devalier, a top economist at Bank of America, and Michael Martinez, a lawyer. Ian Shimizu-Pughe, the CEO of 3T, also shared how his work helps protect the environment. Their stories showed students what is possible and how to prepare for the future. As Mr. Brown emphasized, “we want our students to go to the workshops with a different mind,” because all the speakers had setbacks and challenges.
The event included sessions where students could listen to speakers and ask questions, gaining valuable insights. Mr. Polley pointed out, “Everybody has a different story and different ways to succeed. Do what resonates with you.” Mrs. Marwood added, “Hopefully students chose something that you want to hear about” and described Career Day as a “great opportunity to learn about different options for the future.”
Overall, Career Day helps students explore their interests and plan for future careers. By eng
aging with professionals, they gain valuable advice to guide their education and career paths.
