
The St. Mary’s International School’s Model United Conference team recently participated in the Yale MUN in Singapore, and they swept awards. The Conference was held in Punggol, Singapore, on March 14-16. The team consisted of Hector Koo(‘26), Kano Meixner(‘25), SJ Lee(‘27), Shota Sato(‘27), NingNing Wei(‘26), Johnny Pei(‘28), Kai Smith(‘26), Allen Watanabe(‘26), Jimin Kim(‘25), and Yuu Takai(‘26). The conference lasted for three days, with each committee developing solutions for the given challenges. A delegate dance night took place at the end of the second day. SJ, a member of the delegation, stated that “The delegate night was so fun–It was interesting to interact with some many other students from around the world.”
Starting the first day with the opening ceremony, Singapore’s Former Ambassador-at-Large Bilahari Kausikan gave an opening speech. The closing ceremony took place at the end of the third day, and awards were announced. In the SPECPOL committee, SJ Lee, delegate of Russia, and Johnny Pei, delegate of Kenya, both won Honorable Mentions.

In the Konfrontasi Committee, a committee that focuses on forming the government of Singapore, Jimin Kim won Outstanding Delegate as representing Marshall Carter of the CIA. In the Pacific Islands Forum, Kai Smith won the Best Delegate as the delegate of Tonga. In the United Nations Human Rights Council, Shota Sato won the Best Delegate as delegate of Lithuania. In the United Nations Disarmament and International Security Committee, Yuu Takai won Honorable Mentions as delegate of Kenya, while Kano Meixner won Outstanding Delegate as the delegate of Ukraine. Out of the 10 people who went to YMUNS, seven won an award, marking a great success in the trip.
