
On April 5, American School hosted a Model United Nations conference. The conference had many international schools coming in from both Japan and globally. Schools included St. Mary’s International School, American School in Japan, American School in Monterrey, Tamagawa Academy, K International School, Bangkok International School, and Zama High School. There were 8 committees for delegates to choose from, ranging from World Health Organization (WHO); United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC); Special Political and Decolonization (SPECPOL); Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Issues (SOCHUM); Economics and Social Council (ECOSOC); United Nations Of Drugs and Crimes (UNODC); Security Council (SC); and CRISIS. In St. Mary’s, a total of 15 people participated: Peter Seki (‘28), Louis Wheale (‘28), Johnny Pei (‘28), Chirag Viswanathan (‘28), Shota Sato (‘27), SJ Lee (‘27), Hugo Angin (‘26), Kai Smith (‘26), Michal Milewski (‘26), Qifan Wei (‘26), Jimin Kim (‘25), Aoto Fukai(’27), and Masanori Adachi (‘25).
Among the 10 St. Mary’s students who participated as a delegate, 5 people won a delegate award: Chirag won Honorable Mention in the ECOSOC Committee, Johnny and Louis both won Honorable Mention in the SPECPOL Committee, Hugo won Best Delegate in the SOCHUM Committee, and Kai won Most Diplomatic in the SOCHUM Committee. Chairs Jimin Kim and Michal Milewski won Best Chair awards. This year’s ASIJMUN marked great success, especially for the lowerclassmen. 3 out of 4 freshmen won a delegate award, establishing a new record for St. Mary’s.
