Over 100 players from 8 international schools gathered at St. Mary’s International School on Saturday, April 26, for the third annual International Academic Competitions Japan Championships History Bee and Bowl. “A wonderful celebration of historical knowledge, competition, and community,” the event brought together students from around Tokyo.
Twenty student historians represented St. Mary’s in the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Middle School divisions. The team achieved “outstanding results” in both the individual History Bee and team History Bowl events.
In the History Bee, Kai Smith placed 3rd in Varsity, Hirohisa Kato finished 2nd in Junior Varsity, and Jonathan Yang earned 2nd in Middle School. Oma Chu and Keisuke Kajisa both placed 3rd in their respective divisions.

St. Mary’s A (Varsity) team was crowned champions in the History Bowl. The C (Junior Varsity) team placed 2nd, and the D (Middle School) team came in 3rd.
“Throughout a very competitive day, students demonstrated exceptional dedication, focus, and sportsmanship.” The event also recognized support roles, with thanks given to Geoff Chan for crowd control, and to Kouki Morita and Alex Park for their contributions as readers.
Please join in congratulating all of our students on their remarkable achievements!
