St. Mary’s seventh grader John Kim has been selected as a winner of the Bright Future Essay Contest, held in honor of 70 years of Japan-Laos relations. The contest invited students to explore how to support children without access to education.

During the trip, he will visit three elementary schools in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and lead music and sports activities for local students. He will also take part in cultural experiences arranged by the organization.
All of John’s travel and accommodation costs are covered. While a parent is not required to attend, one of his parents will accompany him at their own expense.
The Bright Future program aims to connect young people with global education issues and inspire action through real-world experiences.
