Every high schooler looks forward to the annual retreat at the start of the school year. Even with the fast-approaching Typhoon Shanshan, the 2024 retreats went as planned, bringing students together to reconnect, recharge, and make memories that would last long beyond the storm.

The freshmen started their first high school retreat experience in Gunma, where nonstop rain turned the trip into a muddy yet thrilling adventure. From hiking forest trails to rafting through rushing rivers, students embraced the wild weather and bonded through the challenge. One student shared that his favorite part was “the thrills of jumping into water,” calling it an unforgettable experience that made the retreat special.

In Yamanashi, the 10th-grade sophomores took on ziplining, rope courses, canoeing, and mountain biking. The activities organized by Mr. Chan and the student council filled the trip with laughter, teamwork, and stronger friendships. Mr. Chan reflected, “Seeing all the students learn something new or get better at something, improving on new skills, and overall enjoying time with classmates,” was the best part of the retreat.
The 11th-grade juniors traveled to Nagano for a retreat centered on collaboration. Between river rafting and team-building tasks, students were challenged to communicate, support one another, and grow together—skills that will serve them well as they step into leadership roles next year.
For the seniors, Chiba offered a peaceful and reflective experience. With cooking classes, beach walks, and time away from academic pressures, the Class of 2025 enjoyed a meaningful pause in their final year.
Despite the typhoon, the 2024 retreat proved that they bring students closer together. As the school year comes to a close, the memories made will remain unforgettable.
