Founded by SJ Lee (’27), the mock trial club is a new organization where students simulate real-life court cases by taking on the roles of lawyers, witnesses, and other participants. Students will learn important skills such as public speaking, critical thinking and persuasive argumentation. The meeting will be held Thursday after school.
The club advisor, Mr Douglas, recently announced a significant expansion for the upcoming year, highlighting the new opportunity for students. “This year the club is excited to be partnering with Temple University and the U.S. Base Schools. The club will participate in a new league with clubs at the U.S. bases in Yokota, Yokosuka, and Sasebo. The competition will be held in U.S. military courtrooms, with lawyers and judges from the Judge Advocate General serving as officials.” This collaboration will allow students to compete in a very professional setting, as the officials will be lawyers and judges from the Judge Advocate General.
Moreover, the founder of this club, SJ Lee, emphasized the friendliness of the club to newcomers. “If you’re interested in law, public speaking, or just looking for a new challenge, I highly encourage you to join us.”, he said. He also stated that the primary objective is to learn about law and court while having fun: ” Come with an open mind, be ready to have fun, and discover what you’re capable of. ”
By offering a mix of intellectual challenges and fun activities, the mock trial club provides a great opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones and develop valuable skills that extend far beyond the courtroom. Whether you aspire to be a legal professional or simply want to boost your confidence and public speaking skills, this club provides an excellent way to gain hands-on experience and build a strong foundation for future success. So, if you are looking for a club that will challenge you and teach you, consider joining the Mock Trial team.
