Mr. Geoffrey Hon has joined the St. Mary’s School community this school year as an MS student counsellor. He comes to our school from Melbourne, Australia. There, Mr.Hon led a private business as a psychologist, and focused on psychology at a local Catholic school before that. His main interests include cooking and exploring various types of restaurants, and then recreating those restaurant meals at home. Mr. Hon says Tokyo is good in terms of food.
At St.Mary’s Mr.Hon is looking to meet new people as he did not know anybody at the school when joining. He also looks for new experiences and looks forward to exploring a new city. Some interesting facts about the new school member are his experience with multicultural foods from: Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia. He also has an indoor plant collection and a dog he had to leave behind to pursue his new job in Japan. Some goals Mr.Hon wants to achieve at the school include: committing to a safe space for all middle school students, he wants to be a trustworthy source to talk about problems to. Mr.Hon understands middle school is a time of change, and is here to support students.
So far, Mr.Hon has been in Japan for a month, some of the biggest changes he noticed was the humid heat, compared to the dry heat in Melbourne. He finds the language barrier challenging in his everyday life as Mr.Hon doesn’t speak Japanese. Even though he likes the friendly people in Tokyo and the commitment St.Mary’s students are showing during the school year so far.
