Basketball season begins in less than two months, and basketball coach Mr. Thiesen wants the players to be ready and prepared for the intensity and physicality that they encounter. Coach Thiesen introduced an 8-week strength and conditioning program for his players to get stronger, faster, and jump higher.
Players are in the weight room every Wednesday for lifting and every Thursday for plyometrics. Following a very efficient workout routine, the program takes only around 45 minutes, leaving enough time for participants to complete their schoolwork while also recovering and taking care of their bodies.
Members of the program are already seeing improvements. For example, Drake (’27), one of the active participants, explained, “I think that the conditioning club definitely helps, I’m already feeling stronger and faster after only two workouts!” This highlights the program’s effectiveness
Coach Thiesen decided to launch this club after a tough loss to the Kinnick Red Devils last year in the Far East Finals. Players are preparing themselves for the physicality they’d face during games. This is especially important for JV players who are transitioning to Varsity and will be playing against more athletic opponents.
By the time the season begins, the players will have completed eight weeks of consistent strength and agility work, putting them in a strong position to compete at their best. Besides, the conditioning club is not just about building muscle and hops; it’s also about preparing mentally and physically for the challenges ahead, ensuring that the team enters the season confident and prepared for whatever comes their way.
