Ms. Hays has returned for the new term with another edition of “Sink Into a Good Book!” In this contest, students submit pictures of themselves reading a book from anywhere in the world they visited during their summer break.

“The aim of this competition is to show where students have been all summer long and how much they enjoy reading,” Ms. Hays explained when asked about the goal of the contest. Windows and bookshelves soon filled with photos of young Titans on their vacations to France, Germany, China, and Taiwan, each one holding a book and flashing a bright smile with varied backdrops right behind them, from the great Eiffel Tower to empty plains.
“Right now, we’re voting for the pictures. So kindergarten through grade five, they vote for the pictures. It’s a student vote,” Ms. Hays shared when asked about the voting system. “Sink Into a Good Book” is a contest designed for students, both through its voting process and its focus on reading.
For Ms. Hays, the most difficult part was raising awareness of the contest, making sure parents were informed and preparing printed copies of all the submissions received. She expressed gratitude to all participants and encouraged students to keep reading and stay curious as her final message.
