The St. Mary’s swim team is set to compete in the Buccaneer Invitational Swim Meet this weekend. This meet is the first championship meet of the season, and is a great opportunity for students to better their times while possibly having a shot at a medal or trophy. As one of the most anticipated events on the swim calendar, the Invitational marks the beginning of a busy and competitive stretch for the Buccaneers.
The Buccaneer Invitational is one of the biggest meets of the swim season, featuring over 100 events and more than 10 teams from across East and Southeast Asia. The meet is always one of the most exciting meets of the season, with the champions being decided in the final events in some years.
Being a two-day meet, the Buccaneer Invitational offers a wide range of events, from sprint 50-meter events to long-distance events such as the 400 freestyle. This allows swimmers who specialize in events that are less common in smaller meets to test themselves in the events they enjoy most. With over 130 events across 5 age groups, there is an event for everyone at this meet.
“The Buccaneer Invitational is always one of my favorite meets of the year. I’ve made so many friends from the Philippines and China; they’re always super friendly. I’m excited for this weekend, it’s something that we’ve all worked hard for, so hopefully we can get some best times and win some medals and trophies as a team,” a high school swimmer on the Buccaneers said.
This weekend is an opportunity for many Buccaneers to showcase their hard work and hopefully get some best times or silverware. Looking beyond this weekend, the Buccaneers have an exciting season ahead, with a trip to South Korea in November. The team hopes to use the momentum from the Buccaneer Invitational to continue improving, build confidence, and strengthen team chemistry as the season progresses.
