The fall sports season in St. Mary’s has already begun, and the cross-country runners had their first practice around a week ago. A lot of the runners are confident about their improvements since last season, including one of the 10th-grade runners, Noelmykel A. (27’), who expressed his optimistic feelings about his performance, “I’m probably going to run a good time”, said Noelmykel, “I think I’m making varsity this season”.
With the loss of one of the best runners in school history, William B., who graduated last year, many people predict that the TITANS’ season will not be particularly successful. However, a new student who joined in the middle of the last school year, Yuto T. (27’), has the potential to be the next star in the cross-country team. Yuto is currently the No. 1 ranked 5K runner in the Kanto League and is very likely to hold his place and further improve his times.
The results of the test trials came out a few days ago, Mughil RK (‘26) was one of the fastest runners, he finished 5 laps around the school in 17 minutes and 28 seconds, running a total distance of 4.5 kilometers. The freshmen runners, who are participating in their first-ever high school sports team, also had some fairly impressive results. Reyon M. (‘28) and Ryunosuke Y. (‘28) finished the trial in just over 21 minutes, quite spectacular times for younger athletes.
Overall, the 2024-25 cross-country season will doubtlessly be an exciting season for the athletes and coaches. Not only did our runners improve a lot over the summer, but there were also a lot more people who joined the cross-country team. Almost 40 students have enlisted in the team this year compared to last year’s 15, indicating that the sport has attracted more and more young athletes to join and compete. Let’s wish for the St. Mary’s Titans and our athlete’s success this season.
