St. Mary’s and the American School in Japan (ASIJ) had a soccer showdown this Thursday. With both Junior Varsity and Varsity playing, it was certainly a thrilling game to watch and play in—unfortunately, St. Mary’s faced defeats in both games, but it was still a valuable learning experience for the players on both teams.
The matches, played on Thursday, January 10th, were held at ASIJ. The Varsity team kicked off at 3:00 PM, followed by the Junior Varsity at 5:00 PM. Both games drew enthusiastic crowds of students, parents, and faculty, who braved the crisp January weather to cheer on their teams.
The Varsity game ended in a 2-0 victory for ASIJ after they capitalized on key opportunities. The Junior Varsity matchup saw ASIJ dominate with a 6-0 win. Despite the losses, St. Mary’s displayed resilience and moments of strong teamwork.
The players now look ahead to a highly anticipated rematch, scheduled for next Tuesday, where they’ll aim to turn the tables on their rivals and showcase the progress made in training.
