On December 8, 2024, students and teachers from St. Mary’s gathered at the Yokohama International School campus for the SAGE (Sexuality and Gender Equality) event, a lifetime opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and social activities that take around the current globe. With roughly 30 participants, which included students from other international schools, the event was a great success.
St. Mary’s councilors Dan Brown and Sarah Marwood, and students like Romeo (’27) and Dwayne (’26) also participated in the activities throughout the day. They were able to discuss issues around the world while providing their perspectives and experiences on some of the topics. The event also featured a socialization opportunity where participants could meet and interact and connect with those from different schools and backgrounds.
“One of the highlights of the day was a crafting session,” says Romeo, where participants were allowed to make bracelets to show unity and creativity. The bracelets enable participants to commemorate the day and the importance of SAGE in discussing events worldwide.
The goal of the SAGE event was to make connections between schools and clubs and explore what others are doing to support gender and sexuality. This event successfully created a space for meaningful discussions and building connections.
