St. Mary’s International School recently participated in an engaging Model United Nations (MUN) conference, where students showcased their diplomatic skills and critical thinking. MUN allows students to take on the roles of UN delegates, debating global issues such as private military contractors and the antibiotic resistance crisis. Delegates aim to pass resolutions addressing these challenges through speeches, negotiation, and collaboration.

The conference saw outstanding achievements by St. Mary’s delegates. Ninth-grader Louis Wheale earned the prestigious Best Delegate award, while Shota Sato and others received Outstanding Delegate honors. Michael Milewski was recognized with an Honorable Mention, and SJ Lee received an Honorable Mention reflecting the school’s strong preparation. Despite these individual accolades, most committees did not place in the rankings, and no overall school ranking system was used.
Participating schools included St. Mary’s, UIA (Unite Inspire Achieve) International School, Tokyo International School, Yokota, K International School In Tokyo, and Seisen International School, which provided debate chairs. Looking ahead, St. Mary’s students are preparing for the Singapore Conference in March and the ASIJ MUN in April, which offer further opportunities to refine their skills and engage with global issues.
