The PSAT, which is a Preliminary SAT, is scheduled for October 8th, 2025. The SAT is a college admission test used in colleges in the US and other countries. The PSAT is a practice of the SAT. In St. Mary’s, the PSAT is conducted for high school students, except seniors. The purpose is to help students get used to the format of the SAT and practice their time management skills for the SAT.
The PSAT will affect the schedule for October 8th. It will take up the whole morning class, which means that core 2 and 4 will be cancelled that day. It is scheduled from 8:15 to 11:45. In the PSAT, English and math will be tested. For English, reading and writing will be assessed. According to Mr. Geoffrey Chan, even if the PSAT might look similar to the MAP test, it is totally different. He added that the PSAT grades are not included in the grade book, so he advised not to get stressed about it.
For students who want to improve their grades of PSAT grades, the grades will be sent in the future to the students, including areas of improvement. Mr. Chan recommended studying these areas for next year’s test.
To take the test on the day, students have to use a special tool called Bluebook. The app Bluebook, which is made by the Collegeboard, should be installed on all students’ laptops. That is the only preparation students have to take. Students should log in to Bluebook using their Collegeboard account, which will be provided by the school.

“Since the PSAT is just a practice of the SAT, it does not affect anything in school. However, the PSAT would help with the future SAT, since students can learn their time management and get used to the format.” Ms. Sarah Marwood, one of the High school counselors, said. As she explained, try your best for the future SAT, but remember, this is practice, not pressure!
