St. Mary’s wrestling team kicked off the season with a resounding win on the Christian Academy in Japan (CAJ) campus on Wednesday, November 26. Despite facing tough opponents and starting later in the season than other schools, the new varsity line up showed grit, determination, and skill throughout the competition.

The team won most of their matches comfortably, with only one loss on the mat. Unfortunately, senior wrestler Hugo M. (‘26) was injured before his match, resulting in a forfeit, but the rest of the team carried the momentum with impressive performances.
Notable matches included Kentaro Y. (‘28), who had an amazing comeback after nearly losing in the first half to secure the victory in the second half. Team captain Jimin Kim (‘26) also made a statement, pinning his opponent in the first 30 seconds of his match.
The win marks a strong start for the season and highlights the potential of this year’s varsity team. With a mix of experienced wrestlers stepping into leadership roles and younger athletes rising to the challenge, St. Mary’s will build on this success in the competitions ahead.
