MUN Club Goes on Hiatus

November 26th Proves to be the Last Day of MUN Club Before Hiatus

November 26th, afterschool was the very last MUN Club session before it went on hiatus. For context, an MUN or Model United Nations, is a realistic simulation of United Nation sessions, centred around diplomacy and public speaking skills. Each student is assigned a country prior to the conference, on which they must research their positions on the given topic, from women’s rights issues to nuclear weapons disarmament. Then, the student is supposed to represent the country accurately throughout the conference, stating their stance and negotiating possible solutions to issues within a 2-day period. The primary purpose of the St. Mary’s MUN Club was to prepare students for these conferences, helping students develop any of the skills needed in a good delegate such as public speaking and drafting resolution papers. The primary reason for the hiatus is the scheduling conflict between the Debate Club and the MUN Club. Since many MUN members also participate in Debate, the MUN Club has chosen to pause its activities at the start of debate season, as it does every year.
