World Cup Ticket Prices Continue to Rise

The problem is not only the final. For important matches such as knockout games or games involving famous countries like Brazil, Argentina, England, or the United States, a  lower-level seat could easily cost between $800 and $2,000. Semi-final tickets and good seats for quarter-finals may also reach similar prices because demand is so high. Many fans say these prices are far beyond what ordinary people can afford. An annymous student from St. Mary’s is paying well over 400,000 yen to watch a quarter final game.

Regular group-stage matches are also becoming expensive. Instead of the cheaper prices fans saw in older World Cups, many normal seats are expected to cost a few hundred dollars each. Not only have ticket prices skyrocketed  but other nececities such as  hotel costs, flights, food, and transportation, some families may need to spend thousands of dollars just to attend one match. Because the tournament is spread across North America, traveling between cities will make the experience even more pricy.

Even though FIFA  some host cities are planning cheaper ticket options, many supporters still believe the tournament is becoming too focused on money. The World Cup has always been known for bringing fans from all over the world together, but rising ticket prices are making many people worry that the event is slowly becoming something only wealthy fans can truly enjoy.
