For over 35 years, Mr. Clarkson’s fundraiser has raised money for the Kawasaki Guide Training Centre to help provide guide dogs for people in need. Mrs. Kimura led the event for around 20 years before Mr. Clarkson took over and introduced new ideas to increase fundraising. This year, it will take place on March 25, with teachers, students, and volunteers working together.
Teachers such as Mr. Ogan, Mr. O’Hagan, Ms. H. Jones, Mrs. O’Shea, and student volunteers take on various tasks and chores to help make the event a success. Students pay 500 to play sports like basketball and soccer, and snacks are sold to raise additional funds. This event normally raises 150,000 yen, but last year was the record with 285,000 yen. Since training a guide dog costs nearly 2 million yen, every donation helps.
A guest speaker will attend, bringing guide dogs to educate students on their importance. The event has been a long-standing tradition, and organizers hope to surpass previous fundraising records. With strong participation from staff and students, the fundraiser continues to be a meaningful way to give back to the community and support a great cause.
