As the first week of Movember draws to a close, the Japan Cancer Society has calculated that St. Mary’s has raised ¥75,354 in total from student donations. Every morning before classes begin from 7:50 A.M. to 8:20 A.M., members from the Japan Cancer Society and Mr. Douglas have set a donation stall for students to vote on which teacher has the best moustache, Movember’s signature logo. As regular Diplomat readers know, a graph has been updated everyday since 4th November for students and teachers to see who is taking the lead in the voting process, right now, Mr. Wilson has the clear lead by having ¥28,000 worth of votes, with the closest candidate, Mr. Kramer, having only ¥6,500 worth of votes. Movember allows people to begin conversations specifically surrounding men’s mental health, suicide rates, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Just last week, an assembly was held in St. Mary’s on how to maintain one’s mental health, especially in periods of stress such as exams, competitions, etc. To raise awareness on these issues, men all over the world grow a moustache, will you be growing one?
