On November 27th, the 7th graders are “walking for wishes”. The students will leave after their first period and enjoy a day out of school walking alongside the Tama River while supporting the St Joseph’s Orphanage. The goal of the walk is for the St Mary’s students to serve the less fortunate people, by doing something, something small such as giving a little Christmas present to them.
The St Joseph’s Orphanage is an orphanage which was founded in 1946 in Saitama and moved to Tokyo in 1949 to make more room for children. The orphanage’s motto is said to be “the philosophy of love”. St Mary’s has a long history with this orphanage. St Mary’s has been working with the orphanage since the 90s, every Christmas to provide the children with little presents each year. This tradtion continues this year, with the current 7th graders raising money for the orphanage.
7th grade students have been working chores around their house to earn around 2000 yen. Then, they were assigned a child from the orphanage, with information such as the name, gender, age. They are expected to buy a present with the money they raised, and a little message or card with the present.

The 7th grade St Joseph’s Orphanage tradition is a tradition which happens every year. This tradition is a little good which each student does to make the orphans’ Christmas.
