Kenjiro is a sophomore (Class of 28) at St. Mary’s International School. Kenjiro is a swimmer, baseball player, and singer. He’s been part of the St. Mary’s Buccaneers Swim Team since kindergarten, and the baseball team and choir since 6th grade. In addition, he is part of a volunteer club and a strong student in school. So, how does Kenjiro balance all these time-consuming responsibilities?

“You need to get your priorities listed out,” Kenjiro explained, “When you have a big test coming up, it’s okay to sacrifice one or two practices.” He believes that conquering your tasks one by one without thinking too far ahead prevents him from getting overwhelmed by the amount of academic and athletic pressure. “When I step foot on the field, I begin to think of myself as a baseball player, and when I jump into the pool, I become a swimmer.” Kenjiro also thinks that his mentality plays a significant role in how he balances many responsibilities; immersing himself in the event he’s participating in really helps him focus and stops him from overthinking.

This mindset allows Kenjiro to make the most of his 24 hours a day; he stays present and does not let one responsibility interfere with another. “Balance isn’t about spending an equal amount of time and effort on everything; it’s about focusing on the most significant thing in front of you consistently,” Kenjiro says.
Kenjiro’s approach shows that managing a busy schedule is not just about discipline and “pushing through”, but rather thinking smart and prioritizing, understanding when to pull back, helps him stay consistent without burning out. Through his prioritization and focus, Kenjiro continues to succeed in the classroom, the field, and the pool.
