At St. Mary’s Easter is more than just a day off on Friday, it is an important part of the school’s faith . To better understand it, The Diplomat spoke with our school priest Father Danilo about what Easter really means. Easter is about “the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” and it is not just a celebration but “the foundation of our faith,” Father explained.
Easter is considered the most important celebration in Christianity because everything depends on the Resurrection. “If Christ did not rise from the dead, our faith would have no meaning,” Father Danilo said. Because of this, Christians believe that death is not the end and that there is hope for eternal life.
On a personal level Easter is very important in his life as a priest. It is “the center of my life and ministry,” and every Mass is connected to the death and Resurrection of Jesus Father shared. He also mentioned that this year is especially meaningful because Easter falls on the anniversary of his ordination. It may seem like a joyful celebration at first but it is also connected to sacrifice. “There is no Easter Sunday without Good Friday,” Father explained, showing that joy comes after struggle.
At school, students can understand Easter better by taking part in activities like Lent and the Stations of the Cross. “Understanding Easter also comes from how we live our daily lives by practicing kindness, forgiveness, and compassion,” Father said. Traditions and symbols like the cross and eggs also help explain its meaning, reminding people of sacrifice, love, and new life.
