Every year, the students are invited to a trischool prom. Prom is an event where students from St. Mary’s, Sacred Heart, and Seisen come together for a formal dance party. This year, it is held at Hotel New Otani with a fee of ¥11,000 per person on Saturday. In this event, student event coordinator Shion (’27) noted that there are awards such as “best couple, prom prince/princess, and prom king/queen”. Usually, only juniors and seniors are allowed to attend this event.

However, this year is different. The sophomores were invited too, most likely due to a lack of sales. This is due to a few reasons, which this article will cover, from both the perspectives of those willing to go and those unwilling to go.
First, people the reasons why people would go. A student from the class of 2027, Rinnosuke, who is going to prom, noted that he was willing to pay ¥11,000 because he wanted to “get to know new people from other schools, have a fun time, and socialize with others”.
However, some others note that they do not want to go for several different reasons. One student noted that he could not go to prom because he had a tournament that he had to attend on that date. Others say that the price tag of ¥11,000 is just too expensive. These reasons are some of the many that led to this decline.
Ultimately, students are starting to lose interest in events like this and are questioning whether they can even happen with declining participation.
