The annual Adachi Fireworks Festival is being held once again this year on May 30. Launching more than 13,000 fireworks, it boasts a staggering collection of different varieties and colors that are not commonly seen in Japan. Moreover, it is along the Arakawa River — a 15 minute walk from Kita-Senju Station — an enjoyable spot for all to relax and view the show. Free spots are first-come-first-serve; if you don’t want the hassle of searching for a spot, reservations can be made for ¥5,000.

Locals in the Kita-Senju area look forward to the event. It serves as a relaxing event to connect with neighbors, friends, and people, harboring a hospitable environment in which many can relax and unwind. Yoonjae, a St. Mary’s Class of ’29 freshman who lives in the area, speaks upon the event with excitement. “Everyone’s looking forward to this [show] as we don’t really get fireworks in the area,” he states. “Especially in Japan, you won’t find this kind of variety or collection of fireworks anywhere else besides important celebration and events. It really is something to look forward to not just for locals, but for anyone who has the time,” Yoonjae says.
For those in St. Mary’s who want to just chill with friends in an air of good vibes and amiability, this event is something that has all that could be wanted. Whether just enjoying the sights or chatting while having a meal with the fireworks in the background, the Adachi Fireworks Festival encourages any and all leisurely activities.
Overall, the show is something that all who are interested should aim not to miss. This opportunity is perfect for unwinding and connecting with the community. The show lasts for about an hour from 19:20-20:20.
