The most significant event at St.Mary’s International School this semester was the annual school carnival, which brought students, teachers, parents and alumni for a day of togetherness and entertainment. The carnival was led by the dedicated student volunteers and booths. Beyond the campus, one of the most important events affecting students was the recent hantavirus outbreak connected with the cruise ship, which attracted global attention. Although Japanese authorities have stated that the immediate risk to Japan remains low, the outbreak serves as a reminder of the importance of health awareness.
Within the school community, another important development was the 2026 STUCO Class Representative Election. Student council representatives play a crucial role in communicating student concerns, organizing activities, and shaping future school initiatives. As a result, the election helps determine who will represent student voices and influence decisions that affect daily school life. Along with the Carnival, the election represents active student participation and leadership, which encourages engagement and responsibility among the student body. These events are important because they help create a stronger school community and opportunities for students to develop leadership skills.
Outside of school, the hantavirus outbreak remains one of the most significant health stories for students to follow. The World Health Organization reported many cases and deaths connected with the hantavirus. Health experts emphasize that the risk to the general public remains low and that the virus spreads primarily through contact with infected rodents, while transmission is very rare. However, understating the outbreak is very important because it teaches students the value of public health precautions and staying informed about global events that may affect everyone around us.
