As school starts, St. Mary’s students begin to prepare for their academic endeavors, as well as their athletic pursuits. One sport being tennis, students already start their season in the first week of school. Students can be seen practicing before or after school on the tennis courts during the hot autumn. The players practice intensively to keep the long SMIS streak alive.
This year, the team welcomed a new arrival, Coach Kung. He has stated that his goal for this season is to “continue the St. Mary’s win streak”. Even with the seniors from last year graduating, he shows no concern, commenting that this year’s group is great and that “many players are stepping up”. Additionally, words from the current varsity captain, Rinntaro Hirota, say that he wants to “continue the win streak and keep dominating” and said, “if we keep working together, we can achieve something special”.
The St. Mary’s Tennis team has always been special and talented, dominating their competition yearly, hopefully doing the same this year too.
