Junior Ryan has been named St. Mary’s first Athlete of the Week of 2026 after an outstanding performance at the CAJ Invitational Tournament, where he earned first place in the 121 lb weight class.
Coach Yabui described Ryan’s showing as “absolutely dominating,” noting that he won all of his matches by pin or technical superiority. According to Mr. Yabui, “his offense and defense were both outstanding,” as Murase consistently outscored opponents with clean low level ankle picks, high crotches, and single legs.
When opponents attempted to attack, Coach Yabui explained that Murase “would counter with a solid front headlock and score a go behind takedown.” On par terre, Murase was relentless, scoring repeatedly with a leg lace.
Coach Yabui concluded that Murase’s wrestling was very effective, efficient, and powerful, explaining that it represents the ideal wrestling style and culture at St. Mary’s.
