On the 9th and 10th, St. Mary’s International School competed in a VEX V5 Robotics Tournament hosted at the American School in Japan (ASIJ). The event brought together schools from across the region and challenged students to apply engineering, programming, and teamwork skills in a competitive robotics environment.
St. Mary’s was represented by two teams: 76371B and 76371M. Both teams spent a couple of months preparing for the tournament, focusing on robot design, building, programming, and strategy development. Preparation included extensive testing and refinement to ensure the robots could perform reliably during matches.
Throughout the tournament, each team competed in eight qualification matches. Their primary strategy focused on scoring goals, while also working to improve autonomous consistency, which was one of the more challenging aspects of the competition. Over the two days, both teams made adjustments to their robots and gameplay based on match performance and field conditions.
Despite the challenges, the St. Mary’s teams demonstrated strong collaboration and problem-solving skills. Their efforts resulted in an overall placement of approximately 6th overall, reflecting their solid performance against a competitive field of teams.

Overall, the VEX V5 Robotics Tournament at ASIJ was a valuable and rewarding experience for teams 76371B and 76371M. The competition strengthened students’ technical skills, teamwork, and ability to adapt under pressure, making it an important learning opportunity for everyone involved.
