With the Fall Play “Our Town” just around the corner on November 7–9, the cast and crew have been dealing with an unexpected roadblock: a wave of the flu. Over the past week, several actors, tech crew members, have missed rehearsals, including the main character at times.
Director Mr. Stovall described the situation like this: “The play is just like a sport, if an athlete goes down, you have to keep playing.” He said that having understudies helped rehearsals keep moving instead.
Cast members said the rehearsals have felt different. One student mentioned how it’s tough when “you’re expecting a certain person to do a certain thing, and it’s not happening.” With tech crew members also out sick, actors went backstage to help run lights and move sets when needed. According to Mr. Stovall, the biggest thing has been clear communication and figuring things out together as they go.
Even with this, the show will go on. When asked what he hopes the audience pays attention to most, Mr. Stovall didn’t overthink it.
“Enjoy the show,” he said.
