The Japan Cancer Society
St.Mary’s has its own Japan Cancer Society Club, but did you know that there is an official Japan-wide organization supporting cancer patients? The Official Japan Cancer Society, a public non-profit organization founded in 1958, aims to raise awareness of cancer by organizing charities, fundraisers, and donations. The JCS also has a hotline to provide emotional support to cancer patients, seminars for cancer treatment, and promotes checkups; all made possible through the donations of generous people. The JCS also promotes the “pink ribbon challenge”, where people and companies wear pink every October to raise awareness for breast cancer. All funds raised by SMIS JCS will go directly to the official JCS, meaning every yen can make a difference.
