Shrek is one of the greatest movies that children loved watching during the 2010s. Its colorful animation and comedic storyline created a movie to be enjoyed by anyone. Now, this fairytale comes to life on stage, brought to you by the Tri-School Musical Team.
Shrek: The Musical will be a collaborative event between St. Mary’s, Seisen, and ISHH. Alongside its popularity as a musical, it will make history as the biggest production in the tri-school’s musical history. Directed by Dr. Reimer, with assistance from Ms. Durrett and vocal direction by Mr. Drahos, this production hopes to showcase a wonderful display of talent.
Featuring a dedicated cast and hardworking backstage crew—combining the makeup team, lights, publicity, tech, and more—alongside a full pit orchestra, this production has been months in the making. Rehearsals are held three times a week, from the afternoon into the late evening, to ensure that every scene, dance, and song is polished for the performance.
The musical adaptation of the 2001 film follows a grumpy, giant green ogre, Shrek, who unexpectedly has his once-peaceful swamp overrun by fairy tale creatures exiled by the villainous Lord Farquaad. To get his home back, he makes a deal with Farquaad and embarks on a journey to rescue Princess Fiona, only to unexpectedly fall in love with her. With nostalgic scenes, colorful costumes, and wonderful music, this will be a show you won’t want to miss!
