For about ten years, Igarashi-san has been a dedicated member of the St. Mary’s security guard team. Every morning, you can find him standing by the entrance or the parking lot, guiding cars and students to ensure that everyone arrives safely. His main job is to protect the building and manage traffic flow, but he does a lot more than that, as he helps keep the campus a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
When asked what he enjoys most about his work, Igarashi-san said that the people here at St. Mary’s make the job fun. He said in Japanese, “Everyone here at the school are good people, and they are fun to talk with,” he shared with a smile. Still, his job can be quite challenging, especially during the morning & after school rush when both students and cars are coming in at once.
He is originally from Ishikawa Prefecture, Igarashi-san worked several different jobs before settling into his current job. He joined St. Mary’s after being introduced to the job by a mutual friend. Looking back, he says some of his favorite memories at school include the annual Carnival and Bingo Night, which bring the whole community together.
Outside of work, Mr. Igarashi enjoys surfing the internet and riding his motorcycle which is a hobby that gives him time to relax after keeping the St. Mary’s campus safe every day.
